#Listeriosis: Polony back on the menu, outbreak officially over

JOHANNESBURG – The South African Minister of Health, Aaron Motsoaledi said that it is now safe to eat processed meat in South Africa, bringing an end to the Listeriosis crisis that hit the country.

The minister made the announcement on Monday during a press briefing, saying there were no new cases of the virus being reported in the past three months. 
Enterprise and Rainbow Chicken were issued recall notices for their products, following the outbreak, which led to retailers like Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers and Woolworths recalling a selection of their products as well as housebrand processed meat products.
Motsoaledi   also said that the battle against  Listeriosis cost,  including the testing of every factory, about R12million, which included a R1.2million contribution from the World Health Organisation.
