Building fire kills at least 20 people in downtown Johannesburg

A fire in a multistory building in downtown Johannesburg left at least 20 people dead, the city’s municipality said.

Multiple people are being treated at the scene in the city’s central business district, after the blaze erupted overnight, the municipality said in a statement on Thursday. eNCA, a Johannesburg-based broadcaster, said the death toll has risen to 38.
