Eastern Cape Premier hands over equipment to farmers

Farmers in the Ugie area, in the Eastern Cape say a lack of funding is preventing them from tapping into the commercial market.

They complained to Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane, who is in their area to hand over farming equipment worth R900 000.

Mabuyane says they will focus on empowering farmers, especially the youth in agriculture, to curb the scourge of unemployment and grow the economy.

Mabuyane also highlighted that the province also has the Isiqalo Youth funding program which will assist young entrepreneurs.

“It means a lot to us as a province. All the challenges of unemployment of economic growth so having young people interested in economic growth. We are trying to mobilise young people to look at this. I’ve seen young people who’ve never done agriculture but who are so commitment in working the land. Isiqalo Programme, it’s there, it’s effective, it’s targeting young people.”
