Eskom CEO says it’s disappointing Adv Semenya’s findings being questioned

Eskom CEO André de Ruyter says it is disappointing that some people do not trust the findings of Advocate Ishmael Semenya who was appointed to investigate claims of racism against him.

The allegations included the abuse of power, racial discrimination, poor governance, irregular recruitment, irregular staff appointments as well as unlawful procurement.

The independent investigation was instituted after Eskom’s former head of procurement, Solly Tshitangano, wrote to President Cyril Ramaphosa and the board’s chair, Malegapuru Makgoba alleging that De Ruyter favoured white employees.

De Ruyter has advised those who cast doubt on the findings to be cautious.

“His finding I think were unequivocal. Calling those allegations bizarre, startling, disappointing, irresponsible, I think that he put findings in a strong language as he masters to discharge it. Why any other investigations will come to a different conclusion unless of course there is a political subtext against me to be honest.”

NUM rejected the findings

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) rejected the report clearing De Ruyter of racism.

NUM spokesperson Livhuwani Mammburu said they want Parliament to investigate the allegations.

“We are not surprised that the Eskom GCEO was exonerated by the internal inquiry appointed by Eskom. As the NUM we never believed in this process. We issued a statement during the time when the allegations were made that we want Scopa in Parliament to investigate these allegations. So we are calling on Scopa to investigate these allegations.”
