Four employees killed at Harmony’s Kusasalethu mine in Gauteng

Four employees from Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited have been killed following an incident related to the maintenance of infrastructure at the company’s Kusasalethu mine near Carletonville, Gauteng.

Harmony spokesperson Sihle Maake says the incident happened on Saturday.

Maake adds that an investigation is under way.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy that took place at our mine in Carletonville on Saturday, where four of our colleagues lost their lives during an infrastructure maintenance incident. Multiple loss of life incident is a huge loss to us as an organisation.”

“Our deepest condolences go our to the friends and family of the deceased. Management will continue to reinforce a risk management procedure to ensure that they are adhered to and reinforced,” she explains.

Meanwhile, the African Mining Indaba kicks off on Monday.

It is a gathering of mining industry players right across the mining value chain from all over the world, as well as African government leaders, among others.
