Gigaba back at the State Capture Inquiry

Former Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba will again be back at the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture on Wednesday morning.

Gigaba has denied a slew of allegations levelled against him.

This week the former minister denied randomly appointing Board members for State-Owned Enterprises (SOE’s).

Gigaba also told the inquiry he had “a social and cultural” relationship with the Gupta family when he was in Cabinet.

He said he knew the Guptas and had been to their Saxonwold compound in Johannesburg.

Gigaba also said he had attended social and cultural gatherings and denied that there was a “business relationship” with the family.

His former advisor, Siyabonga Mahlangu, had previously told the commission he usually arranged meetings for CEOs.

Gigaba told the commission his former adviser was the one who would bully on his behalf during the appointment of executives to SOE’s.

He also disputed allegations the appointments were heavily influenced by the Gupta’s.

SAA

Gigaba refuted claims by former South African Airways (SAA)  Board chairperson Cheryl Carolus that there was hostility between them and it made it difficult for the national airline to function.

He insists that during his tenure as the minister, all things happened within the confines of the Public Management Act, especially when it came to potential investors into Eskom, SAA, and Transnet
