Interest rate cut might be back

An interest rate cut might be on the cards on Thursday. This is after Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) announced on Wednesday that inflation slowed to 3,7 % in October from 4,1% in in September.  A sharp decrease in the petrol prices was the main factor in the slowdown.

The Reserve Bank’s policy committee is meeting for the last time this year (2019), a day after inflation fell to its lowest level since February 2011. Most economics had not expected a cut in this but with inflation lower than expected the chances have increased.
