Loadshedding forces mining sector to cut production

Operations have resumed at the Sibanye Stillwater mine in Theunissen in the Free State. Operations were initially halted Monday after Eskom implemented Stage 6 loadshedding.

Meanwhile, Eskom has conceded that there’s no end to loadshedding for the foreseeable future.

Power blackouts in the country caused by flash flooding have led to the shutting down of mining operations across the country.

Harmony Gold, Impala Platinum, and Sibanye-Stillwater say they have been forced to cut production owing to power shortages.

Heavy rains across parts of South Africa have submerged whole neighbourhoods, leading to mass evacuations.
