Malusi Gigaba denies having business dealings with Guptas

Former cabinet minister Malusi Gigaba has told the State Capture Commission in Johannesburg that he disputes allegations made by his estranged wife Noma that he had business dealings with the Gupta brothers.

Gigaba says he recalls going several times to the Gupta-owned Sahara Computers offices in Johannesburg to pick up invitations.

He insists that he only had social and cultural interactions with the Guptas and not business dealings.

Gigaba has told Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo that he continued interacting with the Guptas even after he was appointed minister.

He has also denied he had any business dealings with them while he was Public Enterprise Minister from 2010 to 2014.

“The most important thing Mr Chairman is not how many times you interact or visit a friend or an acquaintance. The most important thing is what you do with them and as I said I had no business dealings, so whatever interactions I had with them were just social and there were no expectations of me. Probably if you go by the testimony of the previous witness, I did not deliver anything I simply did my work. I knew them and my knowledge of them had no impact on the work I was expected to deliver,” says Gigaba.

Earlier, Noma Gigaba denied that she was bought by a clique in the African National Congress (ANC) to destroy her husband’s political career.

She resumed her testimony at the State Capture Commission on Friday morning after it was halted on Thursday night due to security concerns.
