Pamensky admits to knowing the Guptas before appointment to Eskom Board

Former Eskom Board member Mark Pamensky has admitted knowing the Gupta brothers and then Board member Viroshini Naidoo and her husband before he was appointed to the Board in 2014.

It is alleged that the Guptas had influence on whom they wanted to serve on the Board that year and apparently drafted a list of names.

Pamensky has conceded having tea with one of the Gupta brothers but has denied discussing Eskom-related business and his appointment.

He gave evidence at the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture in Johannesburg.

“In June I got a call or WhatsApp message and ‘would you like to have a cup of tea and have a discussion’ and it was as simple as that Sir. We had a meeting and he explained to me about the Sahara Group a lot and he explained to me about more of his operations where he’s going and his mining operations and I explained to him about Blue Telecoms and we left it there.”
