There has been widespread condemnation of the action of the police in Cape Town which resulted in water cannon being fired on the hashtag-SERVE-US-PLEASE demonstrations.

This occurred when the peaceful demonstrators attempted to return to the Parliamentary precinct to hand over a petition.

The DA says it will lay criminal charges against the police action.
