Ramaphosa aims to institute special council to focus on SOEs

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa says he intends instituting a special council to look into all State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) including Eskom and South African Airways (SAA).

All SOEs are experiencing huge financial difficulties due to mismanagement, governance problems and continued losses that have led to government paying billions in bailouts to prevent them from going under.

Ramaphosa was speaking to the SABC after delivering the ANC’s January 8 statement at the party’s 108th birthday celebrations in Kimberley on Saturday.

“Now, the State-Owned Enterprise Council that I’m going to be setting up, which will have people who are well versed in the running of corporations, in the running of all that including union leaders will be able to assist in helping to reposition State-Owned Enterprises.”
