Ramaphosa appoints Tsakani Maluleke as new Auditor-General

President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Tsakani Maluleke as the new Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) for a non-renewable term of seven years with effect from 1 December 2020.

Maluleke succeeds Kimi Makwetu, who passed away due to illness on the 11th November, just weeks before the end of his term of office.

He was buried on Thursday.

Maluleke has served as Makwetu’s deputy since 2014; the first woman to hold this executive position in the history of the organisation.

She currently serves as a Non-Executive Chair of the Board of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).

Education and work experience

    • Maluleke has over 20 years experience in the private and public sectors
    • Holds a B Comm (Accounting) and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Accountancy from the University of Cape Town
    • Post-graduate Diploma in Development and Public Management from the University of the Witwatersrand
    • Corporate governance experience, gained through participation on numerous corporate boards and strategic committees
    • Served on the Presidential BEE Advisory Council
