Rand weakens 1% as metals fall, dollar gains

South Africa’s rand weakened 1% against the US dollar to 13.5300 on Monday in line with other emerging market currencies as the dollar strengthened.

“The dollar is on the front foot especially against the Euro and the commodities like platinum are down,” said Wichard Cilliers chief currency dealer at Treasury One.
