Retail sales rise points to economic recovery

South African retail sales rose 0.7% year-on-year in September after increasing by 2.5% in August, the statistics office said on Wednesday.

On a month-on-month basis, sales contracted 0.6% from a 0.6% expansion previously. Sales were up 1.5% in the three months to the end of September compared with the same period last year, Statistics South Africa said.
