SA placed on Alert Level 2, effective August 17

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that the whole of South Africa will move to Alert Level 2, as of August 17 2020 at midnight. This he said, means nearly all of the restrictions on the resumption of economic activity across most industries can be removed.

Highlights:

  • Leisure travel between provinces will be permitted.
  • Small social gatherings can take place, with appropriate precautions & hygiene protocols to minimise coronavirus transmission.
  • Prohibitions on the sale of alcohol and tobacco products will be lifted.
  • Gyms and fitness centres will be permitted to reopen. Appropriate restrictions and safety precautions will apply.
