Unions welcome agreement to reinstate COVID-19 relief fund

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) and the South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) have welcomed the agreement reached by government, businesses and the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac) to reinstate the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF)  COVID-19  Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) to provide relief to companies and workers affected by the current Level 4 national lockdown.

The agreement has been reached in principle and it must still go to cabinet for approval.

The agreement was reached over the weekend after a week of negotiations.
