2019 Retail Design and Development Awards open for entries

Entries are now open for this year’s South African Council of Shopping Centres’ (SACSC) Retail Design and Development Awards 2019. SACSC is calling on shopping centre developers, owners and retailers to submit entries for the awards, which aims to identify and award exceptional shopping centre developments and retail store design within the South African property industry.

Award categories include best new large, medium and small shopping centre developments; best renovation or expansion for large, medium and small centres; best retail design for a store or restaurant; and, best new international development.

All aspects of the shopping centre and store/restaurant design and development will be taken into account, including the retail mix; development costs and returns; design and innovation; the centre’s appropriateness to the market; materials/techniques used in the construction and design; sustainability; and, green innovation and effectiveness.

As part of the Retail Design and Development Awards, an overall winner is chosen from the category winners for the coveted Spectrum Award. Last year the overall Spectrum Award winner was the Western Cape’s Whale Coast Mall, developed by Dorpstraat DMS and Hosken Consolidated Investments. Whale Coast Mall was designed by Bentel Associates International/JLD.

Entries for the awards, sponsored by Nedbank CIB Property Finance, close on 6 June 2019. Award winners will be announced at the SACSC’s 23rd Annual Congress, set to take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 16 to 18 October 2019.
