Andries Delport

Vodacom Group’s long-serving chief technology officer, Andries Delport, has resigned after 23 years with the telecommunications operator.

Delport joined Vodacom in 1996, making him one of the group’s longest-serving executives. He will join Community Investment Ventures Holdings (CIVH), the Remgro-controlled parent of Dark Fibre Africa and Vumatel, TechCentral has learnt from a reliable source.

He will leave Vodacom in May 2020.

He’s not the first Vodacom executive to leave for the Remgro stable. Former Vodacom Group CEO Pieter Uys left Vodacom six years ago to join Remgro.

In a letter to staff on Tuesday morning seen by TechCentral, Vodacom Group CEO Shameel Joosub said: “Andries has been a key member of the Vodacom family for the past 23 years and his contribution to the group has been immeasurable.”

Vodacom will announce Delport’s successor “in due course”, Joosub said.  — (c) 2019 NewsCentral Media
