Netstar to roll out IoT devices with SqwidNet

Altron subsidiary Netstar has partnered with Dark Fibre Africa’s Internet of things (IoT) business SqwidNet to roll IoT solutions in South Africa.

The agreement will result in Netstar moving beyond traditional vehicle tracking, with new telematics devices introduced using the Sigfox technology on which SqwidNet’s network is based. Netstar has 600 000 vehicles using its radio frequency-based tracking and recovery systems.

The partnership means “all assets tracked by Netstar will be visible, with message delivery under a service-level agreement, in South Africa and in any of the 45 countries Sigfox operates in at no extra cost”, said SqwidNet chief sales and marketing officer Chetan Goshalia in a statement.

“The first dual device has already been developed with Sigfox connectivity, and we plan to roll out more solutions using this technology to capitalise on the value and benefits,” said Netstar chief technology officer Shaun Brashaw.  — © 2018 NewsCentral Media
