Rand weakens on dollar strength

South Africa‘s rand weakens more than 1% against the dollar to 13.2500 after the greenback was lifted by US durable goods orders and jobless claims that suggested solid growth in business activity.

“On the back of a stronger dollar, emerging markets have come under pressure across the board. The rand is just following suit,” Jan Sluis-Cremer, currency trader at Rand Merchant Bank.
