New vehicle sales showing improvement

New vehicle sales in June increased by 14 percent amid the current challenging economic conditions.

The latest data from the National Automobile Association (Naamsa) shows that almost 47 000 new vehicles were sold in June compared to 41 000 recorded during the same period last year.

The data shows that export sales recorded a decline of 12,6% for vehicles exported in June.

The Automotive Business Council says the increase in the new vehicle market performance was encouraging given the ongoing load shedding and the knock-on effects of the devastating 2022 KZN floods impacting on vehicle production and exports.

The new passenger car market added 29 795 units registering an increase of 251 cars, or a gain of 0,8%.

Sales for medium and heavy truck segments reflected a positive performance during the month at 3 000 units.
