Ramaphosa wins by outright majority

President Cyril Ramaphosa has secured another term as ANC president, winning an outright majority of delegates’ votes in the ANC’s 55th National Conference.

Ramaphosa won 2 476 votes and former Health Minister Zweli Mkhize 1 897 votes.

  • Deputy party leader went to Paul Mashatile, with 2 178 votes. Justice Minister Ronald Lamola received 315 votes and Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane 1 858.
  • The national chairperson position was retained by Gwede Mantashe with 2 062 votes, narrowly beating Limpopo premier Stanley Mathabatha with 2018.
  • Secretary-General went to Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula, with 1 692 votes. (Deputy minister of public enterprises Phumulo Masualle received 1 590 votes).
  • Deputy Secretary-General went to former minister of environmental affairs Nomvula Mokonyane 2195 – a narrow win over former energy minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson, who received 2 145.
  • Second Deputy Secretary-General went to presidential adviser on international relations Maropene Ramokgopa, with 2 373 votes.
  • Treasurer-General went to former deputy health minister Gwen Ramakgopa, with 1 809 votes.

The rand was 1.21% stronger at 17.2872 at 11:58.
