Some fuel price relief for motorists this week

Motorists in Gauteng can expect relief at the fuel pumps this month following the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy’s (DMRE) latest announcement of fuel price adjustments on Tuesday.

Effective as of Wednesday 5 April, diesel users can expect to pay 73.58 cents and 74.58 cents less per litre of 0.05% sulphur and 0.005% sulphur diesel respectively, while gas users will pay 92 cents less per kilogram of Maximum LPGas.

Petrol price decreases for April were relatively flat, with motorists expected to pay a cent less and two cents for a litre of 93 ULP & LRP and 95 ULP & LRP respectively.

The biggest price adjustment for this month was reported for illuminating paraffin, which will sell for 124.90 cents less a litre at wholesale prices.

The country’s monthly fuel price adjustments are informed by both local and international factors.

The across-the-board decreases in fuel prices are owed to the drop in international crude oil prices, a weaker rand, lower international product prices of petrol, as well as the stable fuel levy and Road Accident Fund (RAF) levy among other reasons.

“The average Brent crude oil price decreased from $82.14 to $79.24 during the period under review.

“The rand depreciated, on average, against the dollar (from R17.74 to R18.03 per dollar) during the period under review when compared to the previous one. This led to higher contributions to the basic fuel prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 37.88 c/l, 39.10 c/l and 38.15 c/l, respectively,” DMRE added.
