Two illegal miners arrested in Limpopo for chrome mining

Two suspected illegal miners have been arrested at Mooihoek, near Burgersfort in Limpopo. The zama-zamas were apprehended while mining chrome in the area.

According to police, several other zama-zamas evaded capture by going in other directions. Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says the suspects are expected to appear in court soon.

Ledwaba says, “During the arrest, the police confiscated equipment used during illegal mining or activities. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, applauded the operational team for arresting the suspect and continuously showing their commitment to protecting the minerals of the Province. The suspects will appear in the Sekhukhune Magistrate court, facing charges of illegal mining as well as contravention of the Immigration Act.”
