Peter Gilmour named chairman emeritus of RE/MAX Property Group

Peter Gilmour, who co-founded the RE/MAX franchise group in South Africa with his wife Val, has been appointed chairman emeritus at RE/MAX from 1 May 2019. Previously, Gilmour served as executive chairman and non-executive chairman of South Africa’s largest real estate group. Gilmour will continue to act in an advisory capacity to the group and assist in facilitating some of their training programmes.

With 45 years’ experience in the real estate industry, Gilmour is widely recognised as a visionary, industry leader and a keen observer of industry trends worldwide. Gilmour began his career as a sales associate in his father’s real estate company and has worked in almost every facet of the real estate business since. Prior to founding RE/MAX of Southern Africa in 1995, he served as director of both the Nationwide and Homenet real estate groups.

In 2003 Peter and Val moved to the USA to take up positions at the RE/MAX International headquarters in Denver, Colorado, where they promoted the company’s franchise growth both in the USA and around the world. Gilmour has been a speaker at RE/MAX conventions in the USA, Canada, Europe, South America and Australia, and assisted in the growth and development of many new RE/MAX regions around the world.

Additionally, Gilmour held the position of senior vice president at RE/MAX LLC in Denver and is one of only 21 RE/MAX pioneers worldwide to be presented the Legacy of Leadership Award by RE/MAX founder Dave Liniger. The Gilmours returned to South Africa in 2010, and together with co-owners Adrian and Vicky Goslett, lead the group and the development of RE/MAX in Southern Africa, after two years of recession had adversely affected the industry.

RE/MAX Foundation

In 2012, the Gilmours founded the RE/MAX Foundation in South Africa which supports many worthy national charities and organisations. The Gilmours took the decision to divest their ownership interest in RE/MAX in 2015 in what was to become a watershed moment in the industry. RE/MAX of SA became the first of the top five real estate groups to bring in a BBBEE partner in the form of Z-Capital with a 45% ownership interest, the balance being held by the Goslett Family Trust. Gilmour continued to serve as executive and later as non-executive chairman of the company from 2015 until today.

For the past three years, Gilmour has worked as chief foreign correspondent for REAL Trends – a consulting and communications company based in the USA, which annually produces the foremost rating data of offices and sales associates in the USA.

“We thank Peter for his visionary leadership which steered the company towards becoming the largest real estate brand in the region and congratulate him on his new position as chairman emeritus,” concludes current CEO and regional director of RE/MAX of Southern Africa Adrian Goslett.
