Eskom once again imposes load shedding

Eskom on Thursday introduced stage-one rotational load shedding, saying it would be in effect from midday to 10pm.

In a statement, it blamed an increase in generation plant being out for planned maintenance as well as unplanned outages.

Stage-one load shedding requires 1GW to be cut from the national grid. It emphasised that the power cuts were necessary to “protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout”.

“We encourage residents and businesses to please use electricity sparingly to ease the demand for electricity,” it said.  — (c) 2018 NewsCentral Media
