iPhone Xr South African pricing revealed

The first official South African pricing of Apple’s “cheaper” iPhone model for 2018 has been revealed. Despite being the lowest-cost model among this year’s line-up, the price tag still very much puts the phone in the “flagship” smartphone category.

iStore said on Wednesday that it will begin taking pre-orders for the iPhone Xr on Friday, starting at R15 999 for the base 64GB model.

The 128GB model will retail for R16 999, while the top-end Xr, with 256GB of storage, will cost R19 499, iStore said.

The main difference between the Xr and the more expensive Xs models is the screen: unlike the Xs and Xs Max, which have OLED screens, the Xr uses an LCD that Apple calls “Liquid Retina”. It also has only one rear camera, compared to the twin-camera setup on the more expensive Xs and Xs Max models.

The Xs and Xs Max went on sale last month at the following price points (Xr prices listed below them for easy comparison):

  • iPhone Xs 64GB: R21 999
  • iPhone Xs 256GB: R24 999
  • iPhone Xs 512GB: R29 999
  • iPhone Xs Max 64GB: R23 999
  • iPhone Xs Max 256GB: R26 999
  • iPhone Xs Max 512GB: R31 999
  • iPhone Xr 64GB: R15 999
  • iPhone Xr 128GB: R16 999
  • iPhone Xr 256GB: R19 499

Like the Xs and Xs Max, the Xr be available on contract from all the major South African network operators. – © 2018 NewsCentral Media
