MTN Group has hired another top executive from Vodacom Group, saying on Wednesday that is has appointed Yolanda Cuba as its new chief digital and fintech officer.

Cuba, who was most recently chief officer for strategy and mergers & acquisitions at Vodacom, will lead MTN’s expansion of its financial services and digital solutions efforts and its “transformation into a digital operator”. She will report to group CEO Rob Shuter.

Before joining Vodacom, Cuba was CEO of Vodafone Ghana for three years. Before that, she was executive director for strategy and business support at South African Breweries.

“This role gives me the opportunity to drive digital innovation and financial inclusion across the group’s vast footprint. I’m really looking forward to the new challenge and being part of the MTN leadership team,” Cuba said in a statement issued by MTN.

MTN has hired several senior executives from Vodacom and parent Vodafone in the recent past, including Shuter — who was at one time Vodacom’s chief financial officer and later head of its operations in Europe — and MTN South Africa CEO Godfrey Motsa.

Cuba’s start date at MTN will be communicated in due course, the group said.  — (c) 2019 NewsCentral Media
