Small business owners in Soweto have no confident in SA government

Small business owners in Soweto say they don’t have confidence and trust on South African government.

This follows the 2020 Budget Speech that was delivered by the Finance Minister Tito Mboweni on Wednesday.

The minister tabled his budget but small business owners say certain individuals will benefit, making them as Soweto business owners left out from the share.

The owner of Sakhumzi restaurant Sakhumzi Maqubela says South Africa has the best policies but the government is not implementing them.

Maqubela argues that the government has preferential procurement, saying BEE is one of the examples where the name exists but no one is benefiting from it.

These Soweto business owners say they didn’t even bother to listen to the speech as it is the repetition of previous year’s promises.

Hope seems to be fading from those who kept the Vilakazi Street moving.

The street is known for its vibrant vibe but business owners are sharing the same sentiments of being left out by the government.

Lerato Ndlovu who is also a business owner says nothing has improved; they are still suffering.

She says the crippling economy of the country is making things worse, as tourism is also suffering.

“Tourism on its own has dropped, and I think I be better off in another country, than my own.”
